There are plenty of different types of genital herpes treatments that can help with living with herpes. Though some are more effective than others, there are plenty that just don't work. I have compiled a list of genital herpes treatments that have been tried and tested on myself personally and others. Throughout my research I tried practically every form of medication, cream, ointment, vitamin and mineral.
You may ask "What about western medicine?" Western medicine has its place and we would be far less advanced without it. With western medicine I find that whatever it’s suppose to do, it MAY help but, and I mean a big BUT, it will produce side effects else were.
Why? Because western medicine is like a putting a band aid on a leaky weak pipe. You may temperately fix that spot but now it will put pressure on another weak spot and cause that to leak. And that band aid will only last so long before you will need more band aids to cover the same spot (ever noticed with medication, as time goes on you need higher dosages to have the same effect). In other words, instead of actually repairing the leak and doing the work that needs to be done on the whole pipe to fix it and make it strong again, you are just being like a lazy plumber and doing whatever is easiest.
You’re not actually getting to the root of the problem, instead of fixing what is CAUSING the problem or ailment and working through it because it may not always be comfortable, you just take a pill and hope it goes away. IT WILL NOT JUST GO AWAY!
So let me go over what I have tried (for obvious reasons, some products cannot be mentioned by name, but you get the idea of what they are).
TYPES OF ANTIVIRAL MEDICATION
How it works: Antiviral medication is suppose to stop the herpes virus from duplicating itself.
How to take: Orally daily.
My experience: My doctor suggested viral medication. I can honestly say viral medication was the worst genital herpes treatment available, I felt like an alien in my body. I had mood swings, my skin felt dry and dehydrates, I had nausea and headaches. And it was expensive! Plus it didn't work, not even a little bit. I still got outbreaks for the same duration and severity.
Actual reported side effects: mental/mood changes (such as agitation, slowed thinking, confusion, and hallucinations), dizziness, drowsiness, headache, joint pain, nausea, and diarrhea.
How it works: The Solution to Herpes uses some of the most highly effective techniques available today such as Hypnosis, NLP (neuro linguistic programming) and life coaching in conjunction with some older methods of healing to create an effective treatment to suppressing the genital herpes virus. The Solution to Herpes boosts your immune system and suppresses the virus, allowing you to live your life.
Process of application: You will complete an 8 day treatment. Followed by 20minutes every second day to keep the herpes suppressed so you never have a problem again. If you are going through a highly stressful situation or feel extra stressed you can under take 20 minutes of treatment per day.
My experience: The best treatment for genital herpes yet. Its been years since I have had an outbreak and I usually forget I have herpes because I live a normal life with no symptoms.
Side effects: Include NO OUTBREAKS, better nights sleep, calmer mind, ability to cope with daily stresses easily, happiness and a normal life.
How it works: DMSO is Dimethyl Sulfoxide. Originally DMSO cream was used to administer medicine topically as it allows what it is mixed with to be absorbed quickly into the body through the skin. However it should only be administered by a doctor and under supervision. The DSMO cream that is on the market to help prevent genital herpes outreaks is mixed with hydrogen peroxide. The theory is the herpes virus cannot live in a oxygen rich environment. The use of DMSO cream for the prevention of genital herpes outbreaks is not yet FDA approved.
How to apply: You have to place it on your tail bone where the virus lives and on your genitals. Now it’s a cream and even when it has a scent merged into it, it still smells and gives off a garlic odor.
My experience: I used DMSO cream as a genital herpes treatment even though I knew the negative about it. I used the rose scented cream. It was inconvenient to apply and what’s worse is its REALLY uncomfortable to have cream between your legs, it feels moist and like you forgot to wipe yourself after the bathroom. Plus you have to keep putting it on everyday.
Side effects: Frequently causes a garlic-like body odor and taste in the mouth, stomach upset, sensitivity to light, visual disturbances, and headache. Skin irritation can develop at the site where DMSO is applied topically. DMSO has been reported to cause transient hemolytic (breakdown of red blood cells), resulting in urinary excretion of hemoglobin.
ONE APPLICATION TREATMENTS
How it works: You have to have a genital herpes outbreak come up first and when its open and it's sore you have to apply a few drops of the treatment to a cotton bud and then apply it to the open lesion. It is painful for a few seconds. It is then suppose to kill the virus and make it heal fast. My experience: Now this was terrible, it doesn’t stop the outbreak from occurring. The outbreak has to come open for the ointment to be applied. It doesn’t stop it before it starts. Plus regular use did not prove to stop further outbreaks or make them less frequent. A genital herpes treatment that was a waste of money.
How it works: MMS is 28% sodium chlorite, a toxic chemical known to cause fatal renal failure. When prepared with a citric acid solution as described in its instructions for preparation, the mixture produces chloride dioxide, a potent oxidizing agent used in water treatment and in bleaching. Working on the same principal as DMSO, oxygenating the blood so the virus can't live.
My experience: So I tried it for a little while, only to find out how dangerous it is. So I stopped. However, over the time I used it, I did not see any benefits. I still got herpes outbreaks.
Side effects: anxiousness, depression, confusion, racing heart, loss of appetite, diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting.
How it works: Chinese medicine views genital herpes outbreaks as a product of imbalance in your qi, or vital life energy. And believes that the boiling of herbs and drinking the left over liquid will bring back balance. These herbs are suppose to have antiviral properties and boost the immune system as a genital herpes treatment.
My experience: I took Chinese herbs for over a year with no decrease of outbreaks. Not effective. No side effects, just constant annoyance and bad smell from cooking the herbs daily. You had to boil the herbs for 30 mins a day and then drink the gross liquid that was left.
How it works: Homeopathy is based on the principal "like cures like." Its a method of treatment that supports the body's own healing properties. Its extremely pure and diluted many times to be in small quantities. Its because of these small quantities that trigger the body to heal.
My experience: Taken for 9 months with no decrease in outbreaks. Not effective. No side effects, except the annoyance of needing to take 3 tablets 3 times a day, plus booster powders every 15 days and another powder every week. I felt like I was a walking medicine cabinet. Not good genital herpes treatment.
How it works: The theory is if you eat an alkaline diet (full of fruit and vegetable) with no sugar and your body won't be able to duplicate bad cells and will promote a healthy immune system.
My experience: As I had studied components of nutrition I thought just eating right would stop the outbreaks. The outbreaks became less frequent but didn’t completely stop. Plus, excluding sugar from my diet completely was really hard and unpleasant. Eating well is suggested, but not depriving your body of what you want.
LYSINE and ZINC
How it works: LysineIs an amino acid which is a building block of protein, when taken is suppose to counteract the herpes virus from coming up. Zinc promotes the immune system.
My experience: Taking zinc and lysine together didn't reduce gential herpes outbreaks but it did stop any cold sores from appearing. For HSV-1 its a good herpes treatment, just not for HSV-2 genital herpes.
PUTTING HYDROGEN PEROXIDE ON THE OUTBREAK
How it works: They say that the genital herpes virus cannot live in an oxygen rich environment.
My experience: I use to spray it on my tailbone and in between my legs to stop outbreaks, but it didn’t work. I also put hydrogen peroxide on the open lesion in hope to heal it faster but it was very painful for the first few seconds you apply it. It did clean the open lesion, but it didn’t heal it any faster.
HYDROGEN PEROXIDE BATH
How it works: Place a small bottle of hydrogen peroxide in a bath and soak for 30mins.
My experience: I felt more energized after but it didn’t stop the outbreaks or heal them any faster.
How it works: Its a home genital herpes remedy, so I thought I would try it. Not sure on what principal its suppose to work.
My experience: Like DMSO cream, uncomfortable and did not work. It didn’t lessen the duration of the outbreak at all.
And then there are a lot of home genital herpes remedies such as putting tea tree oil on the outbreaks, ouch! I also put salt on the open lesion to see if it worked like when you have a cold and gargle salt water to kill the germs. Pretty much everything you can think of, I tried. But nothing worked until now. Why? Because none dealt with the real issue. How I felt about the herpes and how I saw myself. No cream or tablet can fix that, it has to come from within.
